Fri Mar 14 05:55:31 UTC 2025: ## UN Chief Visits Bangladesh Amidst Fears of Rohingya Aid Cuts

**DHAKA, Bangladesh (March 14, 2025)** — United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Dhaka on Thursday for a four-day visit to assess the situation of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. His visit comes amidst growing concerns over potential drastic cuts to humanitarian aid following the US government’s decision to shut down USAID operations in the region.

Mr. Guterres was welcomed by Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs adviser, Touhid Hossain. The interim Bangladeshi government, in power since last August, hopes the UN chief’s visit will encourage increased international support for the Rohingya refugee camps.

The World Food Programme (WFP) recently warned of potential food ration cuts at Cox’s Bazar, home to numerous Rohingya refugee camps. The WFP stated that monthly food rations could be slashed from $12.50 to $6 per person starting next month unless sufficient funding is secured. The UN Secretary-General’s visit is therefore crucial in securing the necessary international aid to prevent a humanitarian crisis.
