**Washington, D.C.** – Netflix’s newest Shondaland series, “The Residence,” premieres March 20th, promising a captivating murder mystery set within the hallowed halls of the White House. Inspired by Kate Andersen Brower’s book of the same name, the series, helmed by Paul William Davies (“For the People,” “Scandal”), transforms the presidential mansion into a real-life “Clue” board.
The investigation centers around Cordelia Cupp (Uzo Aduba), a sharp consulting detective for the Metropolitan Police Department, called in to solve a death during a state dinner with Australia. Working alongside FBI agent Edwin Park (Randall Park), Cordelia uses her unique observational skills and ability to let suspects unravel themselves to piece together the clues.
The ensemble cast is filled with intriguing characters: Isiah Whitlock Jr. plays Cordelia’s supportive MPD chief; Susan Kelechi Watson portrays ambitious White House assistant usher Jasmine; Ken Marino is the cunning presidential advisor Harry Hollinger; and Al Franken plays Senator Aaron Filkins, locked in a tense congressional hearing alongside Senator Margery Bay Bix (Eliza Coupe).
The series also features a host of White House staff, including Giancarlo Esposito as the meticulous Chief Usher A.B. Wynter, Kylie Minogue playing herself, President Perry Morgan (Paul Fitzgerald), First Gentleman Elliot Morgan (Barrett Foa), the President’s brother Tripp Morgan (Jason Lee), Social Secretary Lilly Schumacher (Molly Griggs), First Mother-in-law Nan Cox (Jane Curtin), White House butler Sheila Cannon (Edwina Findley), Executive Chef Marvella (Mary Wiseman), and Executive Pastry Chef Didier Gotthard (Bronson Pinchot).
“The Residence” is not just a murder mystery; it’s also a vibrant portrait of the lives and relationships of the people who work at the White House, showcasing both the humor and heart of their experiences. The series promises a thrilling mystery with memorable characters and a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
