Fri Mar 14 05:51:06 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu to Launch 25 Elderly Day Care Centers

**Chennai, March 14, 2025** – The Tamil Nadu government announced plans to establish 25 “Anbucholai” centers, dedicated day care facilities for senior citizens, as part of its 2025 budget. Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu stated that the initiative aims to address the challenges of loneliness, healthcare, and financial dependence often faced by the elderly.

The ₹10 crore project will see centers established in major cities including Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy, and others. These centers will provide day-care assistance, access to essential medical care, and recreational activities, with support from voluntary organizations.

The budget also includes significant allocations for other social welfare programs. The highly successful Chief Minister’s Breakfast scheme, credited with improving student attendance, nutrition, and learning, will be expanded to include government-aided urban schools, benefiting an additional 3.14 lakh students at a cost of ₹600 crore. Further, ₹83 crore is earmarked for constructing new buildings for 500 Anganwadi centers currently operating in rented spaces, and ₹3,676 crore is allocated for the Integrated Child Development Scheme. The Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department will receive a total allocation of ₹8,597 crore.
