KOCHI, March 14, 2025 – In a major overnight raid at the Government Polytechnic College, Kalamassery men’s hostel, Kochi City police seized approximately 2 kg of ganja and arrested three students. The raid, involving nearly 50 officers, began Thursday night and concluded early Friday morning.
Arrested were Adityan (20), a final-year Mechanical Engineering student; Abhiraj (21), a final-year Automobile Engineering student; and Akash (21), a final-year Chemical Engineering student. Akash, found with approximately 1.9 kg of ganja, is expected to be remanded. Adityan and Abhiraj, possessing less than 3 grams each, were granted station bail.
Assistant Commissioner P.V. Baby stated that intelligence reports indicated large ganja purchases for Holi celebrations, with students allegedly collecting donations for the drug. Police also seized weighing scales and ziplock bags, suggesting the ganja was being sold. While plainclothes officers had previously monitored the hostel, this was the first raid conducted on the premises. Several other students escaped during the raid.
