Fri Mar 14 13:10:36 UTC 2025: ## Rural Tamil Nadu School Sees Enrollment Surge Thanks to Outreach Efforts

**TIRUNELVELI, March 14, 2025** – While government school enrollment is declining across Tirunelveli district, one Panchayat Union Primary School in Munneerpallam has bucked the trend, attracting 25 new first-grade students. The school’s success is attributed to a proactive outreach program by teachers who visited families in the surrounding villages over the past two weeks.

Teachers highlighted the benefits of government school education, including the 7.5% reservation in medical programs and 20% reservation in employment, as well as the “Puthumai Penn” and “Thamizh Puthalvan” schemes. They also showcased the school’s improved facilities, such as smart classrooms.

The enthusiastic response culminated in a celebratory procession, with the new students, accompanied by their parents, welcomed to the school with garlands, music, and flowers. Assistant Headmaster Gandhiraj attributed the increase to the school’s high standards, noting that the school currently has 200 students and expects further enrollment before the new academic year begins. This positive development stands in contrast to the overall declining enrollment in government schools in the district.
