Fri Mar 14 12:07:36 UTC 2025: ## Namma Metro Boosts Train Frequency Amidst Ridership Drop

**Bengaluru, March 14, 2025** – Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has responded to commuter complaints by increasing the frequency of Namma Metro trains on the Purple Line. Starting March 13th, trains running between ITPL and Mysuru Road stations now operate at a five-minute frequency from 3:56 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., a two-hour expansion from the previous schedule. This change aims to alleviate overcrowding during peak hours, particularly benefiting IT professionals and students.

However, the improvement comes amidst a significant drop in ridership following a recent fare hike. Average daily ridership has fallen by nearly 100,000 passengers, with a total decrease of approximately 4 million passengers between January and February. January saw 24,914,736 riders, compared to 20,990,894 in February. This decline is attributed to commuters switching to alternative transportation methods.

While commuters welcome the increased frequency, some, like regular commuter Myna K., call for further improvements, urging BMRCL to prioritize passenger convenience and increase train frequency across all operating hours to compensate for the fare hike’s impact.
