**GHAZIABAD, Uttar Pradesh (March 14, 2025)** – A 66-year-old man, identified as Krishna Shekhar Rana, has been arrested in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, for impersonating the High Commissioner of Oman. Rana, a former professor of Zoology and Appraisal Authority at the Union Environment Ministry, was apprehended near Uttar Pradesh Gate on Thursday.
Police recovered a Mercedes car, an identity card, and 46 visiting cards from Rana, who allegedly used forged documents to cultivate a diplomatic persona and gain undue advantages, including VIP security. He had reportedly leveraged his position as trade director of the India GCC Trade Council – an NGO aimed at boosting India’s trade with Gulf countries – to further his deception.
Investigations reveal Rana’s claims to have served as Vice-Chancellor at four universities, a claim partially substantiated by Kumaun University and Jaipur Technical University. Authorities are awaiting confirmation from Almora and Mewar Universities, as well as the Environment Ministry, regarding his past employment. Rana, a resident of Delhi, also owns a college in Agra and a resort in Rajasthan. He has been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
