Fri Mar 14 02:56:44 UTC 2025: ## Trump Again Pushes for Greenland Annexation, Sparking Outrage

**Washington D.C./Nuuk** – US President Donald Trump has once again declared his intention to annex Greenland, prompting a furious response from Greenland’s outgoing Prime Minister Mute Egede. Egede, in a Facebook post, demanded an end to what he called “disrespect” towards Greenland, following Trump’s repeated assertions that the US needs the strategically important island.

During a White House meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Trump reiterated his desire to acquire Greenland, suggesting it was crucial for US national security and even hinting at the potential involvement of NATO. He dismissed Denmark’s claim to the territory, questioning the historical basis of its sovereignty.

Rutte, while acknowledging the Arctic’s strategic importance due to increased activity by China and Russia, declined to engage directly on the annexation issue, deferring to the “high north” countries.

Trump’s comments have been met with widespread condemnation. Egede called for an immediate meeting with party leaders to formulate a stronger rejection of the US President’s proposal. Danish politician Rasmus Jarlov criticized NATO Secretary-General Rutte for seemingly joking about the matter with Trump, warning that such discussions could lead to conflict between NATO allies.

Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark, recently voted against immediate independence but polls consistently show strong opposition to US annexation. The island’s strategic location and mineral resources are viewed by the US as valuable assets. However, Greenland’s population firmly rejects any suggestion of becoming part of the United States. The ongoing controversy highlights the escalating tensions over the Arctic region and its resources.
