Fri Mar 14 05:26:19 UTC 2025: ## Millions More Expected to be Displaced Globally Amidst Aid Cuts
**Geneva, March 14, 2025** – The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) warned Friday that an additional 6.7 million people are projected to be forcibly displaced worldwide by the end of next year. This alarming prediction comes as major donors, including the United States, implement significant cuts to foreign aid programs.
The DRC’s projection, based on an AI-driven model analyzing over 100 indicators, highlights the worsening global displacement crisis. Currently, over 117 million people are forcibly displaced globally, according to the UN refugee agency. The DRC forecasts that nearly one-third of the new displacements will originate from Sudan, already grappling with the world’s worst refugee crisis after two years of conflict. Myanmar is also expected to contribute significantly, with an estimated 1.4 million new displacements.
The aid cuts, particularly those enacted by the U.S. under President Trump, are severely impacting humanitarian efforts. The DRC itself has experienced over 20 contract terminations due to reduced funding. The UN refugee agency reports that funding shortages have forced the closure of crucial programs, including those protecting adolescent girls from child marriage in South Sudan and a safe house for endangered women in Ethiopia.
DRC Secretary General Charlotte Slente condemned the cuts, stating that the reduction in aid constitutes a “betrayal of the most vulnerable” at a time when millions face starvation and displacement. The situation underscores the urgent need for increased international cooperation and sustained funding to address the escalating humanitarian crisis.
