**Denver, CO –** Twelve passengers were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries after an American Airlines plane caught fire at Denver International Airport (DIA) on Thursday evening. The Boeing 737-800, Flight 1006, was en route from Colorado Springs to Dallas Fort Worth when it diverted to Denver due to reported engine vibrations.

Upon landing and while taxiing to the gate, an engine on the aircraft ignited. Passengers evacuated the plane via emergency slides, with photos and videos showing them standing on the wing amidst smoke. All 172 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated to the terminal.

Denver International Airport confirmed the incident on social media, stating that all passengers were safely evacuated and that airport operations have returned to normal. American Airlines attributed the incident to an “engine-related issue” but did not specify when the fire occurred. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident. While this incident adds to a recent string of aviation incidents in the US, officials emphasize that air travel remains statistically very safe.
