Fri Mar 14 06:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Blood Moon to Grace Night Skies Worldwide on March 13th
**SINGAPORE** – A total lunar eclipse, popularly known as a “blood moon,” will illuminate the night sky for much of the globe on Thursday, March 13th. This celestial event, the first total lunar eclipse since 2022, will be visible across the Americas, the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, parts of Western Europe, and Africa. Another total lunar eclipse is expected in September.
The entire eclipse will last approximately six hours, with the period of totality – when the moon is completely engulfed in Earth’s shadow – lasting just over an hour. In North America, the partial eclipse will begin around 1:09 AM Eastern Time (1:00 PM Singapore Time, March 14th), with totality occurring between 2:26 AM and 3:31 AM Eastern Time. For viewers in France, totality is expected between 7:26 AM and 8:31 AM local time.
This phenomenon occurs when the sun, Earth, and moon align, casting Earth’s shadow on the moon. Instead of disappearing entirely, the moon takes on a reddish hue due to the refraction of sunlight through Earth’s atmosphere.
A partial solar eclipse will follow on March 29th, with the moon partially obscuring the sun for viewers in eastern Canada, parts of Europe, northern Russia, and northwestern Africa.
