Fri Mar 14 06:30:00 UTC 2025: ## “Blood Moon” Lights Up Skies Across the Americas

**La Paz, Bolivia – March 14, 2025** – A spectacular “blood moon” graced the skies over the Americas overnight, marking the first total lunar eclipse of 2025. The celestial event, which occurred during the early hours of March 14th, captivated skywatchers across the continent who were treated to a stunning view of the reddish-hued moon.

The phenomenon, caused by the Earth’s shadow completely obscuring the moon while sunlight is refracted through the Earth’s atmosphere, offered optimal viewing conditions across the Americas. Parts of Europe and Africa also witnessed at least a partial eclipse. No special equipment was needed to enjoy the show, with enthusiasts in countries like Bolivia, Honduras, and Ecuador among those sharing images of the impressive “blood moon” online.

The intensity of the moon’s red color, explained astronomers, is dependent on the amount of dust and cloud cover in the Earth’s atmosphere; more dust and clouds result in a deeper red hue.

The last total lunar eclipse occurred in 2022. Another total lunar eclipse is expected on September 7th, 2025, visible from parts of Asia, Africa, and Europe. A further total lunar eclipse will grace the Americas in March 2026. Astronomers note that lunar and solar eclipses tend to occur in pairs, with a total solar eclipse typically following a total lunar eclipse within a few weeks.
