**Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, March 13, 2025** – Holi celebrations are in full swing across India, with vibrant festivities marking the festival of colours. A particularly noteworthy event is the “Widows’ Holi” in Vrindavan, where widows, traditionally excluded from such celebrations, joyfully participate, symbolizing a positive societal shift towards inclusion and compassion.
For centuries, widows in Vrindavan, a city deeply connected to Lord Krishna’s life, have faced societal rejection and hardship. This year’s Holi celebrations showcase a departure from past traditions, allowing these women to actively partake in the festivities.
Celebrations began earlier this week with Rangbhari Ekadashi at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the traditional Lathmar Holi in Nandagaon, followed by Laddu Mar Holi in Barsana. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated Rangotsav 2025 in Barsana, announcing significant development plans for the Mathura-Vrindavan region, including a new ropeway and 100 crore rupees worth of ongoing development projects. He emphasized the government’s commitment to developing the region following similar revitalization efforts in Ayodhya and Prayagraj, and pledged to clean the Yamuna river.
Across the nation, markets are bustling as people prepare for the festival, purchasing colours, water pistols, and sweets. Homes are adorned with vibrant decorations, reflecting the nationwide excitement surrounding Holi.
