**Chennai, March 13, 2025** – Numerous historical palaces and mansions in Tamil Nadu, showcasing the architectural marvels of Nayaks and Nawabs, are crumbling due to neglect. The Public Works Department (PWD) is now highlighting the urgent need for restoration of these heritage structures, proposing to transform them into unique, off-the-beaten-path tourist destinations.
One such neglected site is the Sathya Vijaya Nagaram Palace (Arani Jagir Palace) near Arani in Tiruvannamalai district. Abandoned for over three decades, the palace is slowly succumbing to vegetation and decay. The PWD’s initiative aims to revitalize such forgotten gems, preserving Tamil Nadu’s rich architectural heritage for future generations.
