**Asheville, NC** – The UNC Greensboro Spartans secured their second-ever NCAA Tournament bid, and first since 1998, with a hard-fought 64-57 overtime victory over the Chattanooga Mocs in the Southern Conference championship game on Sunday. The win snapped a 21-game championship game winning streak for Chattanooga, who defeated UNCG in last year’s final.

Khalis Cain led the Spartans with a career-high 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 blocks, including five crucial blocks in overtime. Her performance, which marked her 25th career double-double, was instrumental in UNCG’s victory. Jayde Gamble contributed 12 points and Nya Smith added 10. The Spartans’ dominant defense held Chattanooga to just 1-of-9 shooting in overtime, forcing two turnovers.

Chattanooga, seeded second, mounted a strong challenge led by Gianna Corbitt’s 18 points. Brooke Anya added 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Karsen Murphy chipped in 11 points, including a three-pointer that gave the Mocs a late lead in regulation. However, Cain’s clutch free throw tied the game, sending it into overtime.

UNCG’s strong start saw them lead 26-21 at halftime, despite both teams shooting under 36%. Chattanooga rallied in the second half, going on an 11-0 run to take the lead. The game remained close throughout regulation, culminating in the tense overtime period.

The victory marks a significant milestone for UNCG coach Trina Patterson, who earns her first NCAA Tournament appearance in her illustrious 26-season coaching career. The Spartans, now riding a 14-game winning streak with a 25-6 record, will look to make a deep run in the tournament.
