A disturbing video of the incident, which occurred near Jaystambh Chowk in the city, has gone viral on social media.
The incident, which took place Tuesday night, marks the third case of a discarded newborn in Rewa within the last six weeks, and the second involving a dog discovering the body. Rewa Superintendent of Police Vivek Singh confirmed that police were alerted to the situation and retrieved the baby’s body after the dog dropped it. The body has been sent to the mortuary for examination.
Police are currently analyzing the widely circulated video and questioning individuals who recorded it in an attempt to identify those responsible for abandoning the child. They are appealing to the public for information, assuring anonymity to any witnesses who come forward. SP Singh stated that previous incidents, including a similar case involving a dog near the government medical college, are also under investigation and action has been taken in those cases.
