Thu Mar 13 15:12:02 UTC 2025: ## Qatar to Power Syria with 400 Megawatts of Electricity Daily
**DAMASCUS, SYRIA –** Qatar has begun supplying natural gas to Syria via Jordan, providing a much-needed boost to the war-torn nation’s struggling electricity grid. The initiative, announced Thursday by Qatar News Agency (QNA), will deliver 400 megawatts of electricity daily, gradually increasing production at the Deir Ali power plant. This collaborative effort, brokered with Jordan and the United Nations Development Programme, aims to alleviate widespread power cuts affecting Syrian citizens.
The electricity will be distributed across Syria, reaching major cities including Damascus, Aleppo, and Homs. The project marks a significant step towards addressing Syria’s chronic energy crisis, exacerbated by years of civil war and the loss of previous Iranian oil supplies following the removal of former President Bashar al-Assad.
Fahad Hamad Hassan Al-Sulaiti, head of the Qatar Fund for Development, hailed the initiative as a pivotal step in meeting the Syrian people’s energy needs and reflecting a commitment to regional cooperation. The move represents a significant humanitarian effort by Qatar to alleviate suffering in a country grappling with the aftermath of prolonged conflict and infrastructural damage.
