**Puducherry, March 14, 2025** – The Puducherry government has issued no-objection certificates for the establishment of five new distilleries, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy announced Thursday. This move, he explained, is intended to generate approximately ₹500 crore in revenue and create 5,000 jobs, primarily for women.
The Chief Minister addressed concerns regarding potential corruption in the permit process, stating that the government is unaware of the source of such allegations. He acknowledged the liquor industry’s role in the Union Territory’s finances and expressed willingness to support prohibition if there was unanimous public support.
Rangasamy also reported a positive relationship with Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, highlighting his support for Puducherry’s development needs. The Lt. Governor is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon to discuss the UT’s administrative concerns, including the ongoing push for statehood. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the central government will be receptive to these concerns. The government’s priority, he concluded, remains job creation through both filling existing vacancies and establishing new industries.
