New Delhi, March 13, 2025 – Congress MP A. Bimol Akoijam from Manipur has accused the Lok Sabha of suppressing a crucial question he submitted regarding the Union government’s agreements with insurgent and armed groups in Northeast India. Akoijam claims his starred question, directed at Home Minister Amit Shah, was removed from the March 11 question list without explanation.

The question sought details on the number of agreements signed, their specifics, financial benefits provided, rehabilitation efforts, and progress in disarming groups and reintegrating youth into society. Akoijam highlights the question’s relevance to understanding the ongoing crisis in Manipur, specifically concerning the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki armed groups.

Akoijam stated that his question, originally listed at number 16, disappeared from the released question list. Despite contacting the Lok Sabha Speaker, Om Birla, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, and writing to the Secretary-General on March 6, he received no satisfactory response until a meeting with Speaker Birla, who promised to investigate the matter. Akoijam asserts his question did not violate any admissibility rules. He considers the incident a serious infringement on his rights and duties as an MP.
