**Hyderabad, March 13, 2025** – Cyberabad police are implementing a new licensing system for hostels to improve safety standards following a meeting with 225 hostel owners. The initiative comes in response to concerns about fire safety and the need for better record-keeping.
Addressing the meeting, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty highlighted the city’s burgeoning IT sector and the resulting high demand for hostel accommodation. He noted that approximately 4,000 hostels currently operate in the area.
A key focus of the meeting was the introduction of mandatory establishment licenses for all hostels, bringing them under city police regulations. A centralized online platform is also planned to provide comprehensive information about hostel facilities, pricing, and amenities.
Concerns about fire safety were prominent, with officials revealing that 75% of hostels are currently non-compliant. Maintaining updated records of residents was also emphasized as crucial. The Safe Stay Project, spearheaded by the Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) Women Forum, aims to improve overall security and comfort in hostels. Ten key safety guidelines have been established and a compliance survey is underway. The new measures aim to enhance safety and security for the thousands of students and working professionals living in Cyberabad’s hostels.
