NEW DELHI, March 12, 2024 – Many states across India will observe widespread closures on March 14th in observance of Holi, the festival of colours. The closures affect various sectors, including government offices, banks, schools, and the stock markets.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will both be closed for trading on March 14th. Many banks will also be closed, with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) listing March 13th and 14th as holidays for numerous states including but not limited to Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala, Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Sikkim, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu, West Bengal, Delhi, Goa, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Himachal Pradesh. Specific closures vary by state.
Schools will be closed in several states, including Delhi (March 13th and 14th), Uttar Pradesh (March 13th-16th), Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. In Rajasthan, government offices will also be closed from March 13th to 16th.
To maintain public safety, liquor shops and bars will be closed in Noida and Ghaziabad. Authorities are urging residents to celebrate responsibly and avoid public alcohol consumption. The closures are in effect for both the Holika Dahan bonfire ceremony and the main colour celebration.
