Thu Mar 13 01:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Northwestern Wildcats Add Midweek Game, Split Series with Citadel

**EVANSTON, Ill. (March 11, 2025)** – The Northwestern Wildcats baseball team announced a midweek game against UIC on Wednesday, March 12, at 1:50 p.m. CT. The announcement follows a weekend series split against The Citadel, where the Wildcats demonstrated both offensive power and strong pitching.

After losing the first two games by a narrow margin, Northwestern (7-7) rallied to win the final two. Saturday’s 4-1 victory featured a strong performance by RHP Sam Hliboki, who pitched 6 innings, allowing only one run and striking out five. INF Jack Counsell contributed his second multi-RBI game in as many weeks. Sunday’s game saw the Wildcats’ offense explode for a season-high 10 runs on 15 hits, fueled by a leadoff home run from OF Preston Knott and another home run from INF Trent Liolios in a 10-7 win.

Northwestern’s pitching staff has been a highlight this season, holding opponents to four or fewer hits on four occasions—their most since 2019. The team boasts a .982 fielding percentage, ranking third in the Big Ten and 20th nationally, continuing their strong defensive performance from last year when they led the Big Ten.

Individual standouts include LHP Blake MacMillan, who earned his second save of the season with 3 scoreless innings and boasts a .135 batting average against, and Knott, who has reached base safely in every game this season. Liolios leads the Wildcats in batting average (.350), on-base percentage (.449), slugging percentage (.700), RBI (11), and home runs (4).

Northwestern holds a commanding 71-33-1 all-time record against UIC, though they seek their first win against the Flames since May 2, 2023. The Wildcats will open Big Ten play this weekend against Penn State at Miller Park, with games scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. CT, Saturday at 2 p.m. CT, and Sunday at 12:30 p.m. CT. All three games will be streamed on B1G+.
