**NEW DELHI** – A British woman visiting India was allegedly raped by a man she befriended on Instagram at a Mahipalpur hotel in Delhi. The accused, Kailash, has been arrested and charged with rape, while his friend, Wasim, faces charges of molestation.
The woman, who was holidaying in Maharashtra and Goa, contacted Kailash, who she had been communicating with online, and asked him to join her. Unable to travel, Kailash instead invited her to Delhi. She arrived on Tuesday and checked into a hotel. Kailash subsequently arrived with Wasim, and allegedly raped the woman that night.
The following morning, the victim reported the incident to the Vasant Kunj police station. Police have informed the British High Commission, which is providing consular assistance. Kailash, who reportedly works at a private firm and used Google Translate to communicate with the victim due to language barriers, remains in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
