Tue Mar 11 10:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Blood Moon to Grace Night Skies Thursday: Don’t Miss the Rare Celestial Event

**Washington, D.C.** – Stargazers across the Americas and parts of Europe and Africa are in for a treat this Thursday night. A total lunar eclipse, popularly known as a “blood moon” due to the moon’s reddish hue, will be visible starting at 12:55 a.m. ET. This celestial event will see the Earth’s shadow completely cover the moon for approximately 65 minutes, creating a breathtaking spectacle.

The entire eclipse process, from the moon entering the Earth’s penumbra to its exit, will last around 3 hours and 38 minutes. During totality, when the moon is fully within the Earth’s umbra (the darkest part of the shadow), it will take on deep rusty-red shades thanks to sunlight refracted through Earth’s atmosphere.

According to NASA, this will be the only total lunar eclipse visible from the U.S. until March 2026. However, the agency forecasts a significant increase in lunar eclipse viewings in the coming years, with nine of the fourteen predicted eclipses between 2025 and 2030 visible from within the United States.

So, mark your calendars and prepare for a celestial show! Don’t miss this rare opportunity to witness the captivating beauty of a blood moon eclipse.
