Tue Mar 11 07:28:00 UTC 2025: ## Syria Achieves Major Breakthrough: Kurdish Forces Integrated into National Army

**Jableh, Syria – March 11, 2025** – In a significant development, Syria’s interim government reached a landmark agreement with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Monday, integrating the U.S.-backed militia into state institutions. The deal, signed by interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa and SDF commander Mazloum Abdi, includes a ceasefire and the transfer of control over key northeastern territories, including border crossings, airports, and oil fields, to the central government. This agreement brings most of Syria under the control of the interim government, which came to power following the ouster of President Bashar Assad in December.

The deal, to be fully implemented by the end of the year, also grants significant concessions to the Kurdish population, including constitutional rights, language recognition, and citizenship for those previously denied it. Hundreds of thousands of displaced Kurds are expected to return home. The agreement further stipulates that all Syrians, regardless of religion or ethnicity, will participate in the political process.

This political breakthrough comes amidst a separate internal conflict. The Syrian government announced the end of a military operation against insurgents loyal to the Assad regime following clashes in the coastal region. These clashes, triggered by an attack on a police patrol, resulted in heavy casualties, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reporting over 1,130 deaths, including 830 civilians. While the government claims to have largely contained the insurgency, reports of retaliatory attacks against the Alawite community surfaced, prompting international concern. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged accountability for the violence and reaffirmed U.S. support for Syria’s minority communities. The interim government acknowledged the retaliatory attacks as isolated incidents and promised an investigation. Despite the ongoing challenges, the integration of the SDF marks a substantial step towards unifying Syria under the interim government’s authority.
