**MUMBAI, INDIA –** India’s victorious Champions Trophy cricket team has returned home to a quiet welcome after their triumph in Dubai. Captain Rohit Sharma and the majority of the squad arrived in Mumbai on Monday night following their four-wicket victory over New Zealand. This win marks India’s third Champions Trophy title and their second ICC title in nine months.
Unlike the celebratory welcome following their T20 World Cup win last year, the team enjoyed a low-key return, with players prioritizing rest before the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), which begins March 22nd. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) opted against a formal felicitation ceremony.
While most players, including those with families, departed Dubai on Monday, a few remained for a couple of extra days, according to a BCCI source. Notable departures included Virat Kohli, who left Dubai with his wife Anushka Sharma shortly after the match, and head coach Gautam Gambhir and pacer Harshit Rana, who landed in Delhi on Monday night. Shreyas Iyer, instrumental in India’s middle order, will captain Punjab Kings and joins his IPL team on March 16th.
The team played all their matches in Dubai due to a hybrid tournament model agreed upon, despite Pakistan hosting the event. India remained undefeated throughout the eight-team tournament.
