**Chennai, March 11, 2025** – A 34-year-old software engineer, T. Nethaji, was found dead in his Saligramam apartment early Monday morning following a house fire. Neighbours discovered thick smoke emanating from his rented house and forced entry, finding him unconscious near a charred mattress. Emergency services transported Nethaji to a government hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police suspect the fire may have been started accidentally by an unextinguished cigarette, possibly while Nethaji was intoxicated. They believe he succumbed to smoke inhalation. Nethaji, originally from Thiruvannamalai, lived alone. The incident is under investigation.
