Mon Mar 10 19:05:44 UTC 2025: **Delhi Unveils Ambitious Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0**
**New Delhi, March 11, 2025** – The Delhi government has finalized a draft Electric Vehicle (EV) 2.0 Policy aimed at dramatically increasing the adoption of electric vehicles in the city by 2027. Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh announced the policy on Monday, stating that it will soon be presented to the Cabinet.
The policy’s key goal is to phase out all CNG autorickshaws and light motor vehicles, replacing them with EVs. The ambitious target is to have 95% of all registered vehicles in Delhi electric by 2027. This includes a complete transition to electric buses and a prioritization of sustainable public transport. The current EV policy, implemented by the previous administration, expires March 31st.
To incentivize the shift, the new policy proposes purchase incentives for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, light commercial vehicles, and trucks. Funding for these incentives will come from a dedicated fund created through green levies, pollution cess, and aggregator license fees. The policy also mandates fleet electrification for commercial transport and strengthens regulations to ensure compliance.
Minister Singh emphasized the policy’s focus on job creation, targeting employment opportunities in EV sales, servicing, financing, and battery management. The government plans to launch training programs for EV mechanics and drivers. The policy represents a significant step towards Delhi’s commitment to reducing pollution and transitioning to sustainable transportation.
