Tue Mar 11 05:52:44 UTC 2025: ## Karnataka Bolsters Security After Tourist Gang-Rape Near Hampi

**Hampi, Karnataka –** Following the gang-rape of an Israeli tourist and the murder of an Odisha tourist near the Hampi UNESCO World Heritage site, Karnataka police have significantly increased security measures in the region. The incident, which occurred late Thursday night while a group was stargazing, involved three men who have since been arrested. The attackers also allegedly pushed another tourist into a canal, resulting in his death.

In response to the crime and a reported exodus of foreign tourists, Koppal Superintendent of Police L Arasiddi announced a series of initiatives. These include intensified night patrols, increased highway vehicle checks, and random drug checks at homestays and resorts in the area. Police are also conducting raids on hotels and requiring all establishments to verify guest documentation and install CCTV cameras.

Foreign tourists are now required to complete Form C, providing passport, visa, and photograph details to the local police station upon arrival. Homestay owners have been instructed to advise guests against venturing out at night due to the risk of animal attacks, and an inspector-level officer will conduct nightly rounds in Anegundi and Sanapur.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has issued a statement assuring tourists of the government’s commitment to their safety and promising measures to prevent similar incidents. However, the attack has already prompted concerns among tourists, with reports suggesting a decline in foreign visitor numbers despite the Chief Minister’s assurances.
