**ELURU, Andhra Pradesh, March 10, 2025** – The Andhra Pradesh Forest Department has begun a survey to identify encroachments around Kolleru Lake, acting on a Supreme Court directive. Using drones, officials are gathering data on encroachments in villages such as Madhavaram, Prattikoonalanka, and Gudivakalanka.
The survey comes in response to a January 16th Supreme Court order demanding a detailed report on encroachments in Kolleru Lake and the Kolleru Wildlife Sanctuary by March 19th. The state government has pledged to finalize the sanctuary’s boundaries within three months.
The Supreme Court’s order, issued on December 11th, 2024, mandates the removal of encroachments hindering the lake’s natural water flow and threatening wildlife. The government is tasked with precisely mapping the lake’s boundaries using latitude and longitude coordinates.
