Sun Mar 09 19:14:57 UTC 2025: ## Rohit Sharma Quashes Retirement Speculation After Champions Trophy Win

**Dubai, UAE –** Indian captain Rohit Sharma has dismissed rumours of his impending retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket following India’s four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final. The 37-year-old’s performance in the final, a crucial 76 runs off 83 balls, fueled speculation about his future, given India’s next major ODI tournament is the 2027 World Cup.

However, Sharma emphatically declared in a post-match press conference that he has no plans to retire from the format. “I am not going to retire from this format,” he stated, adding, “There is no future plan; whatever is going on will continue as it is.”

Sharma’s knock in the final was his first half-century in an ICC event final. His 76 runs surpassed his previous highest ODI final score of 66, achieved against Australia in 2008. Across nine ICC event finals, Sharma now boasts 322 runs in 11 innings. This performance places him alongside Sourav Ganguly, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Hansie Cronje as the only captains to score 50+ runs in an ICC Champions Trophy final.

Despite the victory and his personal success, Sharma highlighted the team’s collective strength, emphasizing the contribution of several senior players. “There is a lot of hunger even in guys who have played a lot of cricket, and it rubs off on even the younger players,” he noted.
