Mon Mar 10 01:30:00 UTC 2025: **Nalgonda Court Delivers Verdict in Sensational Pranay Murder Case**

Nalgonda, Telangana – A Nalgonda court delivered a landmark verdict today in the highly publicized Pranay Perumalla murder case, sentencing one of the accused, Subhash Sharma (A2), to the death penalty. The remaining accused received life imprisonment. The judgment, delivered on March 10th, 2025, concluded a nearly six-year trial that gripped the Telugu states.

Pranay Perumalla was brutally murdered on September 14th, 2018, in Miryalaguda, Nalgonda district, while returning from a hospital with his pregnant wife. The attack was orchestrated by his father-in-law, Maruthi Rao (A1), who resented his daughter’s inter-caste marriage. Rao hired a gang led by the terrorist Asgar Ali (A3) to carry out the killing.

The court considered evidence from a 1600-page charge sheet, post-mortem reports, scientific evidence, and witness testimonies. The eight accused, including Subhash Sharma, Asgar Ali, Abdul Bari (A4), M.A Karim (A5), Sravan Kumar (A6), Shiva (A7), and Nizam (A8), were charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy), and the Arms Act of 1959. While Maruthi Rao died by suicide in March 2020, the court convicted the remaining seven. Several accused pleaded for leniency, citing health concerns and family responsibilities. Despite these pleas, the court upheld the death penalty for Subhash Sharma for his crucial role in the murder. Three other accused are already serving jail sentences. The other five were out on bail during the trial.

The case was investigated meticulously by police under the supervision of then SP A.V. Ranganath. The court’s decision brings a closure to the high-profile case that sparked widespread outrage and highlighted issues of caste violence and honor killings in India.
