**Bengaluru, March 10, 2025** – A land survey is underway to determine the extent of land submersion resulting from the proposed Mekedatu balancing reservoir project near Kanakapura, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced on Sunday. The survey, conducted by Revenue and Forest department officials, is a crucial step in the project aimed at improving water access for the region.

Shivakumar, speaking at Bhoohalli-Hoskere, also announced ₹400 crore in grants for the Kanakapura Assembly constituency, stating that funds would be allocated in phases to avoid scrutiny. He highlighted ongoing water resource department projects worth ₹250 crore in the area.

Further initiatives include a project to fill 21 lakes using water from Sangama, and the construction of check dams to improve water flow in the Arkavati river. Shivakumar urged residents against selling their land, citing potential price increases due to decreased silk imports from China, leading to higher mulberry prices. The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the project’s importance in improving the lives of the people in the region.
