Mon Mar 10 13:32:40 UTC 2025: ## New Forest Division to Boost Conservation Efforts in Mayiladuthurai
**TIRUCHI, March 10, 2025** – A new Forest Division will be established in Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu, by splitting the Nagapattinam Forest Division, effective April 1st. The decision follows the creation of the Mayiladuthurai revenue district in December 2020 and aims to improve administrative efficiency and coordination.
The Tamil Nadu government has allocated ₹10 lakh for setting up the new division, which will include office space within the Mayiladuthurai District Collectorate complex, furniture, stationery, and equipment. A District Forest Officer will head the division, supported by a team of rangers, guards, and other personnel.
The Mayiladuthurai Division’s jurisdiction will encompass the Sirkazhi and Mayiladuthurai Forest Ranges, along with a Forest Extension Range. The Sirkazhi Range oversees several reserve forests, including those in Kollidam, Alakudi, Sodhiyakudi, Mudalaimedu, Kattur, and Pudupattinam. The new division will fall under the Tiruchi Circle of the Chief Conservator of Forests. The proposal for the new division was initiated by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and subsequently approved by the state government.
