Mon Mar 10 07:27:02 UTC 2025: ## AI Job Market to Explode, Leaving Millions of Positions Unfilled by 2027, Report Warns

**New Delhi/Global** – A new report by Bain & Company reveals a looming crisis in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector: a massive shortfall of skilled workers. By 2027, the report predicts over 2.3 million AI job openings globally, far exceeding the available talent pool. This gap is particularly acute in several key markets, threatening to slow down AI adoption worldwide.

India, while poised to become a global AI talent hub, faces a significant challenge. The report estimates that while the AI talent pool will grow to approximately 1.2 million by 2027, job openings could be 1.5 to 2 times higher. This necessitates reskilling and upskilling over 1 million existing workers. Saikat Banerjee, Partner at Bain & Company, emphasized the urgent need for businesses to adopt new approaches to attracting, developing, and retaining AI talent, moving beyond traditional hiring methods and prioritizing continuous upskilling.

The global picture is equally stark. AI-related job postings have surged 21% annually since 2019, with salaries increasing by 11% annually, yet qualified candidates haven’t kept pace. The US could see as many as 700,000 AI jobs unfilled by 2027, with a potential gap of over 700,000 workers. Germany faces an even more significant challenge, with potentially 70% of AI jobs unfilled. The UK and Australia also anticipate substantial shortfalls, exceeding 50% and 60% respectively.

The report highlights the lack of in-house AI expertise as a major barrier to generative AI implementation for nearly half of all executives surveyed. Addressing this talent shortage, the report concludes, requires a fundamental shift in how companies approach AI talent acquisition and development. Reskilling and upskilling initiatives are critical to bridging the widening gap and unlocking the full potential of the rapidly growing AI sector.
