**Raipur, Chhattisgarh:** The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a series of raids across 14 locations linked to former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and his son Chaitanya Baghel on [Date of raid] as part of a money laundering investigation into an alleged multi-crore liquor scam. The raids, conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), targeted the Baghels’ Bhilai residence and other properties.

Officials stated that several crucial documents were seized during the searches. The ED alleges that a liquor syndicate operating between 2019 and 2022 siphoned off approximately Rs 2,161 crore from the state exchequer through various illicit schemes, including bribes from distillers and unaccounted sales of country liquor. Chaitanya Baghel is suspected of receiving proceeds from this alleged scam.

Mr. Baghel vehemently denied any wrongdoing, claiming the ED action followed the dismissal of a seven-year-old case deemed false by a court. He suggested the raids were politically motivated, stating, “If someone is trying to stop Congress in Punjab through this conspiracy, then it is a misunderstanding.” The ED investigation continues.
