Davidson, NC – NBA superstar Stephen Curry ’10 and his wife Ayesha, along with longtime Davidson supporters Don, Matt ’05, and Erica Berman, have donated an eight-figure sum to establish the Curry-Berman Fund. This substantial gift will significantly enhance Davidson College’s men’s and women’s basketball programs, ensuring their competitiveness in the evolving landscape of collegiate athletics.

The fund will provide crucial support as the college navigates the new era of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) compensation for student-athletes. Curry and Berman will also serve as assistant general managers, lending their expertise and experience to both basketball programs. Austin Buntz, former Under Armour employee and Davidson’s athletic fundraising team member, has been hired as general manager and assistant athletic director for basketball development to further support this initiative.

“The Davidson experience is top-notch,” stated Curry. “I want very talented, high-character student-athletes to have the same opportunity I had.” Matt Berman echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Davidson’s unique ability to combine rigorous academics with elite athletics.

Davidson College President Doug Hicks ’90 lauded the gift as transformative, highlighting its importance in maintaining the college’s athletic identity within the changing collegiate sports landscape. Athletic Director Chris Clunie ’06 confirmed that no other programs would be affected, reiterating the college’s commitment to raising additional funds.

Both men’s basketball coach Matt McKillop and women’s basketball coach Gayle Fulks expressed immense gratitude, emphasizing the gift’s impact on their teams’ ability to compete at a championship level within the highly competitive Atlantic 10 conference.

Curry and Berman’s roles will extend beyond financial support, including mentoring and guidance for student-athletes. This commitment reflects their desire to invest in the future of Davidson athletics and ensure that student-athletes receive comprehensive support both on and off the court. The Curry-Berman Fund represents a significant step forward for Davidson basketball, solidifying the college’s commitment to athletic excellence while upholding its academic values.
