**ALAPPUZHA, March 10, 2025** – A one-day seminar focusing on the modernization of the coir spinning sector was held in Alappuzha on Monday. The event, organized by the Coir Board’s regional office in Kalavoor, aimed to balance sustainable development with the protection of traditional coir workers.
District Collector Alex Varghese, who inaugurated the seminar, emphasized the importance of mechanization in reducing production costs. However, he stressed the need to safeguard the livelihoods of traditional workers within the industry. T.O. Gangadharan, Additional Director of the Coir Directorate, presided over the event. The seminar underscored the challenge of balancing technological advancement with the preservation of traditional skills in the coir industry.
