**Mumbai, India** – Vicky Kaushal’s latest historical drama, “Chhaava,” has defied expectations, becoming the first Hindi film of 2025 to surpass ₹500 crore domestically and exceeding ₹700 crore globally. The film, which depicts the life and death of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has enjoyed phenomenal success since its theatrical release.
Opening with a strong ₹31 crore on its first day, “Chhaava” continued its winning streak, accumulating ₹219.25 crore in its first week, ₹180.25 crore in its second, and ₹84.05 crore in its third. Even into its fourth week, the film maintained momentum, earning ₹8.75 crore on Friday, ₹16.75 crore on Saturday, and approximately ₹11.5 crore on Sunday. The Hindi version alone grossed ₹512.3 crore, with the Telugu version adding a further ₹8.25 crore, resulting in a total of ₹520.55 crore by its 24th day.
Despite competition from the India vs New Zealand Champions Trophy final, “Chhaava” maintained a respectable 18.90% occupancy on Sunday, according to film trade portal Sacnilk. Further boosts are anticipated during the upcoming Women’s Day holiday and Holi festival, with experts predicting a lifetime domestic earning of around ₹550 crore.
Vicky Kaushal expressed his gratitude for the film’s success on social media, acknowledging the immense love shown by audiences. “Chhaava” surpasses his previous highest-grossing films, including “Uri: The Surgical Strike,” “Raazi,” “Sam Bahadur,” and “Zara Hatke Zara Bachke.” The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, stars an ensemble cast including Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Vineet Kumar Singh, Ashutosh Rana, and Divya Dutta.
