MORADABAD, INDIA (March 10, 2025) – A woman and her friends in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, have been charged with animal cruelty after a video surfaced showing them hunting down and burning a cat alive. The incident, which occurred in the Bhojpur area, sparked outrage after the video was shared online.

According to police, the group believed encountering the cat was an ill omen. They pursued the animal, captured it, and set it on fire, all while filming the act. The video was subsequently reported to the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau in Delhi, leading to an investigation.

Police, using CCTV footage, identified the woman as Priya and traced the motorcycle used in the incident. Charges under the Wildlife Protection Act have been filed against Priya and her unidentified accomplices. They face up to three years in prison and a fine of ₹100,000 if convicted.
