**PHOENIX, AZ** – Major League Baseball’s 2025 season will feature an unusual three-day opening, marking a unique start to the year. The season begins internationally on Tuesday, March 18th, with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs playing a two-game series at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. These games will serve as official regular season contests.
The remaining 28 teams will then take the field on Thursday, March 27th, with the exception of the Colorado Rockies and Tampa Bay Rays. Due to the damage sustained to Tropicana Field by Hurricane Milton, the Rays will open their season on Friday, March 28th at George M. Steinbrenner Field (the New York Yankees’ spring training home), which will also serve as their temporary home stadium this season. The Rockies’ opening day game will also be on March 28th. This staggered opening marks the first time in recent memory that MLB has seen such a varied start to the regular season.
