Sun Mar 09 15:51:19 UTC 2025: ## Bengaluru Software Engineer Loses ₹90 Lakh to Online Gaming Scam

**Bengaluru, March 9, 2025** – A 37-year-old software engineer in Bengaluru has filed a police complaint after losing ₹90 lakh (approximately $109,000 USD) over two years to an online gaming app. The East Division Cyber Crime police have registered a case against unknown individuals under the IT Act and section 318 (4) of the Indian Penal Code (cheating and fraud).

The engineer, who was introduced to the app, “Namma Exchange,” by a friend in June 2023, initially won ₹40,000 after depositing ₹10,000. Encouraged by this, he invested a total of ₹90 lakh, taking out loans to continue playing. Despite initial wins, he ultimately lost all his investment. His friend allegedly advised him to invest more to recoup his losses, exacerbating the situation.

The app offered online betting on various sports and casino games. Users deposited money via individual bank accounts. The police investigation is underway. This incident serves as a cautionary tale about the risks associated with unregulated online gambling platforms.
