Sat Mar 08 22:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Green’s Century Powers New Zealand to Victory Over Sri Lanka in Second ODI

**Nelson, New Zealand –** Maddy Green smashed her second One Day International (ODI) century, scoring 100 runs, leading New Zealand to a comprehensive 78-run victory over Sri Lanka in the second ODI at Nelson on Friday. The win levels the three-match series after the opening game was washed out by rain.

New Zealand’s innings got off to a shaky start, losing four top-order batters cheaply and finding themselves at 59 for 4 after 18 overs. However, Green’s masterful innings, punctuated by seven fours, steadied the ship. A crucial 51-run partnership with Isabella Gaze (19) and valuable contributions from Jess Kerr (38) and Polly Inglis (34*) propelled New Zealand to a challenging 245/7.

Sri Lanka’s chase never truly gained momentum. Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne fell early, leaving Harshitha Samarawickrama (59) to shoulder the burden. Despite her solid knock, Sri Lanka’s other batswomen failed to provide sufficient support, with Kavisha Dilhari’s 25 being the next highest score. Hannah Rowe’s impressive 4-wicket haul, including the dismissals of Gunaratne and Samarawickrama, restricted Sri Lanka to 167 all out in 46.4 overs.

The final ODI will be played on Sunday at the same venue, but will be without Hannah Rowe, who will be attending a teammate’s wedding. Emma Black will be joining the squad as cover. Lauren Down remains out of the series with a back injury, with Izzy Sharp called up as a replacement.

**Brief Scores:** New Zealand 245/7 (Maddy Green 100; Chamari Athapaththu 2-42) beat Sri Lanka 167 (Harshitha Samarawickrama 59; Hannah Rowe 4-31) by 78 runs.
