Sun Mar 09 16:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Western Carolina Catamounts Softball Heads to Winthrop Eagle Classic

**CULLOWHEE, N.C. (March 6, 2025)** – The Western Carolina Catamounts softball team (8-10) will participate in the Winthrop Eagle Classic, a three-day tournament starting Friday, March 7th. The Catamounts will face Boston University, Winthrop, and Norfolk State in a series of games spread across Terry Field and Eagle Field at Winthrop University.

WCU opens the tournament Friday at 3 p.m. against Boston University (8-7) on Eagle Field, followed by a 5:30 p.m. game against the host Winthrop Eagles (13-7) on Terry Field. This latter game will be streamed on ESPN+. Saturday’s schedule includes a 12:30 p.m. contest against Norfolk State (6-7) on Terry Field and a 3 p.m. rematch with Boston University on Eagle Field. The tournament concludes Sunday with a 12:30 p.m. game against Winthrop on Terry Field. Live stats for all WCU games will be available on CatamountSports.com.

The Catamounts are coming off a successful Catamount Classic, winning five games. They then split a doubleheader against Presbyterian. Leading hitters for WCU include Lily Bell (.472 batting average, 8 stolen bases) and Sydney McPherson (16 RBIs in the Catamount Classic, SoCon Player of the Week). Freshman Amanda Fulton leads the pitching staff with a 4-0 record and 1.46 ERA.

Boston University enters the tournament on a five-game losing streak, while Winthrop boasts a three-game win streak and a strong home record. Norfolk State is looking to turn things around after three consecutive losses.

Following the Eagle Classic, Western Carolina will begin a 13-game homestand on March 11th with a doubleheader against N.C. Central.
