**Shivamogga, March 9, 2025** – Acclaimed Kannada novelist S.L. Bhyrappa was honored in a grand ceremony held Sunday in his native village of Santheshivara, Channarayapatna taluk, Hassan district. The event, organized by the villagers, celebrated Bhyrappa’s significant literary contributions and his commitment to community development.
The village was festively decorated to welcome Bhyrappa and his wife, Saraswathi, who, according to the author, was attending a public function with him for the first time. A procession featuring tableaus depicting his 27 novels paraded through the village, culminating in an exhibition showcasing his books and photographs.
Bhyrappa’s advocacy for the rejuvenation of the village tank led to government funding for a lift irrigation project, benefiting numerous tanks in the surrounding area. Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, present at the felicitation, highlighted Bhyrappa’s instrumental role in the village’s development. Bommai credited Bhyrappa’s efforts with securing vital government support.
Further demonstrating his commitment to his community, Bhyrappa has converted his ancestral home into an office for the Gowramma Trust, named after his mother. The building also houses a library and a meeting hall. Several dignitaries, including Lok Sabha members and legislators, attended the event.
