Sat Mar 08 13:41:00 UTC 2025: ## Pakistan’s Amir Eyes IPL Debut Next Year After Obtaining UK Passport
**Mumbai, India** – Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has expressed his desire to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting next year. Amir, who boasts an impressive international career spanning 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20Is, stated his eligibility hinges on obtaining a UK passport, as his wife is a UK citizen.
“By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL, and if given the chance, why not?” Amir declared on the Haarna Mana Hai chat show. His comments mark a significant development, as Pakistani players have been absent from the IPL since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. While several Pakistani players featured in the inaugural season, including Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi, and Sohail Tanvir, no Pakistani players have participated since.
Fellow Pakistani cricketer Ahmed Shehzad believes Amir would be a valuable asset to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), suggesting his inclusion could help the team secure its maiden IPL title. “RCB needs a bowler like Amir to fix their bowling woes,” Shehzad noted. “They have a good batting unit, but their bowling has always been a problem.”
Amir’s potential entry into the IPL adds an intriguing element to the upcoming season. He holds fond memories of his encounters with India, notably recalling a memorable gesture from former Indian captain Virat Kohli who gifted him his bat. “Virat gifted me his bat, and I was overwhelmed by his action,” Amir shared, adding that he greatly admires Kohli’s batting.
