Sat Mar 08 15:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Mumbai Indians Storm Past UP Warriorz in WPL Thriller

**Lucknow, India** – Hayley Matthews’ blistering 68 off 46 balls and Amelia Kerr’s career-best 5/38 spearheaded Mumbai Indians to a convincing six-wicket victory over UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League on Thursday. The win propelled MI to second place in the standings with eight points, just two behind leaders Delhi Capitals, and significantly boosted their net run rate. Meanwhile, UP Warriorz suffered their third consecutive defeat, leaving their playoff hopes hanging by a thread.

Chasing a modest 151, MI initially lost Kerr early, but Matthews took control, forming a crucial 92-run partnership with Nat Sciver-Brunt (37). Matthews’ aggressive innings, featuring eight fours and two sixes, propelled MI to a comfortable position. Although Deepti Sharma took a stunning catch to dismiss Sciver-Brunt, Yastika Bhatia finished the chase with ease, hitting two boundaries in the penultimate over to secure victory with nine balls remaining.

Earlier, MI’s bowlers turned the game on its head. Kerr’s outstanding five-wicket haul, including the crucial dismissal of in-form Chinelle Henry, restricted UP Warriorz to 150/9. Despite a strong start by UP Warriorz, where Tazmin Brits scored a half-century, MI’s disciplined bowling, especially Kerr’s spin bowling, choked the run flow and triggered a dramatic collapse. UP Warriorz lost nine wickets for just 76 runs in the final 12.1 overs. The match showcased a thrilling display of both batting and bowling prowess, highlighting the intense competition in the WPL.
