Sun Mar 09 04:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Draymond Green Clarifies Comments on Karl-Anthony Towns’ Absence; Offers Condolences

**NEW YORK** – Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green issued an apology and extended his condolences to New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns following the death of a close family friend. Green’s clarification comes after comments he made on his podcast, “The Draymond Green Show,” speculating about Towns’ absence from Tuesday’s game against the Warriors.

Towns missed the game due to a personal matter, later revealed to be the death of a family friend. On his podcast, Green relayed what he’d heard from Towns’ father, suggesting Towns’ absence was due to the presence of former teammate Jimmy Butler, referencing past tensions between the two players during their time with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Green, upon learning the true reason for Towns’ absence, expressed remorse. “That’s unfortunate, I’m sorry to hear that. That sucks,” Green stated after the Warriors’ game against the Brooklyn Nets. He emphasized that his podcast comments were simply repeating what he had been told and that he was unaware of the family tragedy at the time. He sent his well wishes to Towns and his family.

Towns, who rejoined the Knicks in Los Angeles, confirmed the death of a close friend and explained his absence was to support his family. He stated, “This is one of those moments where I had to be there for my family and be there for the kids that lost somebody really special to them.”
