**Hyderabad, March 8, 2025** – Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a ₹500 crore expansion project at Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University (VCIWU) in Hyderabad. The project, slated for completion within 30 months, will include the construction of new academic blocks and the restoration of the university’s Darbar Hall.
Addressing students, faculty, and officials, Reddy urged students to aim for excellence, competing with prestigious international universities like Harvard and Stanford. He highlighted the university’s growth from a small college with seven students in 1924 to a thriving institution with nearly 7,000 students across 70 courses today.
Reddy emphasized the importance of increased women’s participation in all fields, citing examples of successful women leaders in Telangana and at the national level, including former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. He encouraged the students to pursue careers in medicine, law, engineering, and politics, aiming for positions of leadership in government and parliament. He specifically mentioned the ongoing push for women’s reservation in legislatures, expressing hope that the students would one day be instrumental in furthering that cause. The event was also attended by Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar.
