**New Delhi, March 8, 2025** – The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment is urging all gig and platform workers to register on the e-Shram portal to access benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). This follows a previous budget allocation for registering online platform workers, providing them with ID cards, and extending healthcare coverage.
The AB-PMJAY offers a health insurance cover of ₹5 lakh per family annually for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization at over 31,000 empanelled hospitals nationwide. The Ministry is actively working to implement these budget provisions and encourages immediate self-registration on the e-Shram portal to expedite access to benefits.
The government has also requested platform aggregators to actively inform their workers about the registration process and facilitate their enrollment on the portal. The Ministry’s statement emphasizes the importance of prioritizing registration for eligible gig workers.
